Letter from the President Season Greetings Fellow AiM members I want to thank the AiM Board of Directors for electing me to be the AiM president for 2012. We had our first Board of Directors meeting Monday night, Dec. 12 and am excited to move forward down a positive road. My main goal for the coming year as your president, is to engage the membership endurance riders, youth, non showing members as well as members that compete. The board approved an endurance high mileage award for 2012 to the horse and rider combination that logs the most miles in an endurance competition for the upcoming season. The recipient needs to be an AiM member as they log their miles. Cari Carter, our youth coordinator has ideas to engage the youth. She has in mind a membership meeting featuring the youth of our club. We are planning to have more general membership meetings. The first one in January will be a basic 101 class on how to fill out an entry form. This will cover what memberships are required for the show and also what awards are available to AiM members through the Arabian Horse Association, US Dressage Federation and the US Equestrian Federation. How about a meeting on Pilates for riders? Dentistry for horses? Acupuncture for horses? Let me know if you have any ideas. How exciting that Sport Horse Nationals is returning to Nampa Idaho. The Arabian Horse Association has signed a contract for the show to be held there in 2012 and 2014. How about getting as many members there with their horses as possible. Remember, you can qualify for dressage through US Dressage Federation open shows. However, you must sign up with the AHA. The meeting in January will tell you how to do this. Plans are underway for two horseshows in 2012. Neither will be on a holiday weekend this year so hope to see everyone there either as an exhibitor or as a volunteer. AiM at the Hood is April 27-29 and the AiM Classic and Region 4 Sport horse Championships is June 29 July 1. The show board set a goal of $3000 in corporate sponsors for the Regional show. Scott Bowman has some good ideas on how to get there. If anyone has ideas or wants to help, let him know. We are also going to have a return of the silent auction during the AiM classic and Regional Sporthorse Championships. This was last done in 2007 at our AiM Classic Salem show. We will be looking for quality donations of goods and services. Again, contact Scott or myself with ideas. The board has also endorsed the continuing support of Sound Equine Options. We not only want to support both financially and with donations of goods, but encourage AiM members or ex members to contact this organization if they find themselves in need of their service. Lastly, the board has a established a new fiscal responsible policy. We have implemented a system of checks and balances. Expenses are going to have to be approved in advance and no one will be writing a check to themselves. The club now has a debit card so this will make it easier to purchase ribbons, get AHA show approval and other on line transactions that may occur. Details of the new policy will become part of the new policy and procedures manual that is being developed. The AiM Board of directors has accepted the resignation of Kaye Phaneuf, Lisa Kolke and Zoe Ann Arrington. We thank them for their many years of service to the club and wish them well on their new chosen paths. My best wishes to all of you for a successful 2012 both personally and in the show ring. Hope to see you at the Christmas party on Dec. 18 at the Lake Oswego Hunt Club Club House. Please contact me with any concerns or suggestions.
